Halloween is a holiday that is awaited by many children and adults alike. It's celebrated each year on October 31 starting from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain when people would light bonfires and wear scary costumes to ward off ghosts. Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as the day to honor all saints in the eighth century. Soon those two holidays got combined into one big two-day celebration. The evening before was called All Hallows Eve, and later just Halloween, a day of activities, treats, and costumes. People dress up in skeletons, ghosts, or other scary costumes, make Jack o Lanterns from pumpkins, decorate their houses, and give treats to children.
