Labor Day is traditionally observed on the first Monday of September and beginning in 1894 it's a federal holiday. Labor Day weekend symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans and it's celebrated with many parties and street parades across the country. In the late 1800s at the peaks of the Industrial Revolution in the US, an average American worked seven days a week and 12-hour days shifts in order for a basic living.
