Doge is a slang term for a dog that got permanently associated with images of Shiba Inu nicknamed Shibe. Ironic Doge meme formats gained prevalence over the original in 2017. The use of misspelled term doge to refer to a dog began in 2005, when it was mentioned in the Homestar Runner puppet show. In 2010 Atsuko Sato posted several photos of her rescue-adopted Shiba Inu dog Kabosu, and one of those photos of Kabosu sitting on a couch while glaring sideways at the camera with raised eyebrows in 2013 got its name Doge and became Doge Meme we know today.
