How the YouTube Progress Bar Extension Handles Data
Updated: August 15, 2026
Scope
This privacy policy applies only to the Chrome extension Custom Progress Bar for YouTube (Manifest V3, version 4.0.1), listed on the Chrome Web Store. It is provided to support compliance with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.
Use of our website at custom-progressbar.com is covered by the separate website Privacy Policy. This page does not replace that policy.
Single purpose
The extension has one narrow purpose: it changes the progress bar of a YouTube player to a custom one on YouTube and on all embed players.
Data we do not collect
The extension does not collect personal information. It does not create accounts, does not read or export your browsing history, and does not send YouTube watch data, video titles, or account details to our servers.
We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties. This matches the Chrome Web Store listing disclosure that the developer will not collect or use your data.
Local storage
Theme choice and custom styles stay in Chrome storage on your device. The storage permission saves the current theme. The unlimitedStorage permission stores custom styles that may be larger than the default quota. The extension does not upload this data to our servers.
Permission justification
Each permission is required for the single purpose above. Unused permissions are not requested.
| Permission | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| storage | Save the current theme. |
| unlimitedStorage | Store custom styles. |
| notifications | Notifications about new topics. |
| alarms | Notifications about new topics. |
| activeTab | Show in the interface that the extension only works on YouTube. |
| Host permission | Change players on YouTube and all embed players. |
Host access
Content scripts run on youtube.com and youtube-nocookie.com so the extension can replace the YouTube progress bar, including embed players.
Content scripts also run on our own domains (custom-progressbar.com and related aliases) so the website can apply a selected progress bar to the installed extension. The extension does not inject scripts on unrelated websites.
Remote code
We do not use remote code. Extension logic ships in the package as local scripts such as background.js, style.js, and custom-progress-bar.js.
Limited Use certifications
We certify that the following disclosures are true:
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, outside of the approved use cases.
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes that are unrelated to this item's single purpose.
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Third parties
Google Chrome is the runtime and distribution platform. The extension does not include an analytics SDK and does not send usage data to advertising or analytics vendors. If you visit our website, that visit is governed by the website Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
User control
You can uninstall the extension at any time from chrome://extensions. Uninstalling removes locally stored themes and custom styles. You can also disable Chrome notifications for the extension in Chrome settings.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy when the extension's permissions or data practices change. The updated date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
