In a random lab accident in the 1940s, a college student Jay Garrick acquired a mysterious power now known as Speed Force and became the first DC Super Hero to go by the name The Flash. The superpower passed from him, years later, to a police scientist called Barry Allen, losing it for a short time to Wally West. Those three generations of speedsters are members of the Justice Society and Justice League.
