Deadpool is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist Rob Liefeld, the character made his first appearance in The New Mutants #98 in February 1991. Deadpool is a mercenary, assassin, and overall merc with a mouth, who is known for his wisecracking personality and his tendency to break the fourth wall. Deadpool's real name is Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative and mercenary who was subjected to a rogue experimental cancer treatment that gave him accelerated healing powers but also left him with a horribly disfigured appearance.
