James Buchanan Bucky Barnes is known as Winter Soldier, he is a veteran of World War II and a former officer of the 107th Infantry Regiment, he is also a best friend of Steve Rogers since childhood. During the war, his regiment was captured by HYDRA, and Barnes was given a variant of the Super Soldier Serum, similar to Steve's. Steve saved James from HYDRA and they formed the Howling Commandos to battle Red Skull's forces. In the attempt of capturing Zola Barnes has fallen off a cliff and was considered dead. But he survived tho he lost his left arm. He was found by the Soviets that have brainwashed him, and armed him with a new cybernetic arm.
